Good spots to see (or hear) reptiles, amphibians and other creatures:

Gompers Park Wetland
Located on the Southwest corner of Foster Avenue and Pulaski Road, Chicago, IL

This restored wetland is home to great blue herons, warblers, turtles and bullfrogs. It is a good place for bird watching, walking and nature study. Volunteer opportunities are also available. For more information call (312) 747-2200.

The Morton Arboretum
Located at 4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle, IL

The Morton Arboretum features oak savanna, mesic prairie and marsh habitats. The Arboretum's Burr Reed Marsh offers abundant opportunities to view amphibians and migrating birds. For more information, call (630) 968-0074.


Old School Forest Preserve
Located in Libertyville, IL

In this preserve, large oaks dominate woodlands blending with small prairies. The preserve is a refuge for chorus frogs, and visitor features include foot trails, wheelchair trails, horse or bicycle trails, toilets, picnic areas and parking. For more information call (847) 367-6640.


John G. Shedd Aquarium
Located in Chicago, IL

The John G. Shedd Aquarium features one of the world's largest and most diverse collections of aquatic animals. Its Illinois Lakes and Rivers exhibit lets visitors get a close look at some of the Chicago region's native fish and other aquatic creatures. For more information, call (312) 939-2435.
