Chicago Wilderness is all around you, in the forest preserves, state parks and other protected natural lands of our region. In fact, wherever you live in northeastern Illinois, southeastern Wisconsin, or northwestern Indiana, you're within twenty minutes of a natural area.
There are plenty of things to do in Chicago Wilderness, including hiking, bicycling, canoeing, and cross-country skiing. Wander through Chicago Wilderness and you'll also find an amazing array of things to see—from rare birds and butterflies to striking prairie and woodland vistas. You can also participate in organized activities in Chicago Wilderness. Groups throughout the region host events to help local residents enjoy and understand the area's unique natural resources. Many Chicago Wilderness member organizations sponsor such events and list them on the Chicagoland Environmental Network web site. Year round, there's always a good reason to get out and explore Chicago Wilderness.
